Angela Valella wins 2013 – 2014 CINTAS Foundation Award in Visual Arts

Angela Valella is an artist and educator born in Cuba, based in Miami. She is the director of The Nightclub project, a nomadic platform established in April 2012 which aims to create dialogue among diverse artistic practices and practitioners through curated exhibitions presented in various venues for one night only. From 2005 to 2011, she cofounded 801 Projects, a contemporary space dedicated to promote the arts that included exhibitions, workshops, and talks. One of the founding members of Design and Architecture School, DASH, in South Florida, she has organized curatorial shows and conferences among other projects. Valella’s works in a variety of media including painting, collage, installation, and video. She investigates problems of perception, selective accumulation and non-linearity.

Cintas Foundation announce finalists

Miami Dade College (MDC), home of the CINTAS Fellows Collection, and the CINTAS Foundation have announced this year’s visual arts finalists for the annual CINTAS Foundation Fellowship competition. The competition awards a $10,000 fellowship for each winner in three categories: visual arts, music and creative writing.

The 2013-14 CINTAS Fellowship Visual Arts finalists are:Cristina Lei Rodriguez, Joseph Michael Lopez, Lourdes Perdomo, Marta María Pérez Bravo, Olivia Ramos, Lissette Schaeffler, Ruben Torres Llorca, Ivan Toth Depeña, and Angela Valella.

MDC – Poetic Reality – Cintas Fellows Collection

The Miami Dade College (MDC) Museum of Art + Design will present A Poetic Reality: Magical Realism of the CINTAS Fellows Collection. Stewards of the collection since 2011, the Museum is located within the College’s historic Freedom Tower. A Poetic Reality opens Friday, June 7 with a public reception at 6 p.m. The exhibition will remain on display through Sept. 21, Wednesday to Sunday, from noon to 5 pm. It is free and open to the public.

The MDC Museum of Art + Design (MoAD) presentsTranscending Narratives of Humanity: Selected Works from the CINTAS Foundation Fellows Collection at its National Historic Landmark Freedom Tower. Free and open to the public.

Transcending Narratives of Humanity explores artists who use art as successful vehicles of narrative, presenting works that conjure the darkest corners of the subconscious, magical reconstructions of inanimate objects and mastery of form, while investigating the interrogation of our personal and cultural identity in modern society.

The minimal exhibition features just six works by CINTAS Foundation Fellows Ernesto de la Vega Pujol, Pablo Cano, Mario Petrirena, Juan Nickford, Ernesto Oroza and María Elena González. Curated by MDC MoAD Curatorial Assistant Natalie Pérez, this exhibition reflects the CINTAS Foundation’s vision and multidisciplinary approach to the contemporary artists it supports.

competition in three categories: visual arts, music  composition  and  architecture,  at an opening
reception at 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 10. The winners of the Fellowships will be announced at an
awards reception on December 4.

Miami Dade College and CINTAS Foundation Announces Visual Arts Fellowship Finalists

MDC’s Art Gallery System will showcase the works of visual arts finalists at an exhibition at the Iconic Freedom Tower
Miami, October 14, 2011 – After reviewing nearly 100 submissions from around the world, the CINTAS Foundation has selected ten finalists in the visual arts category for its annual CINTAS Foundation Fellowship competition. They are Ivan Abreu, Harold Batista, Domingo Castillo, Ivan Depena, Coco Fusco, Jillian Mayer, Fabian Pena, Dinorah de Jesus Rodriguez, Ruben Torres Llorca, and Juana Valdes.
Miami Dade College (MDC), the new home of the world-renowned CINTAS Fellows Collection, will host an exhibition of this year’s visual arts finalists. The CINTAS Fellows Finalists Exhibition opens with an invitation-only reception at 7 p.m.Thursday, Oct. 27,at the college’s Freedom Tower.

Cintas Foundation to Entrust Miami Dade College with Renowned Art Collection

Miami, June 17, 2011 – Miami Dade College(MDC) will soon be the new home of the renownedCintas Fellows Collection, the largest collection anywhere of Cuban art outside of Cuba. On an extended loan to MDC by the Cintas Foundation, the collection is comprised of nearly 300 pieces by artists of Cuban descent who have received prestigious Cintas Fellowships, awarded since 1963.

The collection will be formally welcomed to the college at a signing ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday, June 20, at the Wolfson Campus, in the Office of Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón, president of Miami Dade College and champion of the arts. Some of the art from the collection will be on display at the signing.
