Bucolic Paintings
(or… Why not paint landscapes today?)
Raúl Cordero, born in La Habana, Cuba, in 1971 and based in Mexico City, is a multidisciplinary artist, with a background in art and design. His early work was focused on the uses of videoart, installation and photography in relation to how painting establishes a dialog with these new artistic languages. In the last decade, Cordero has approached painting from a post-conceptual position, incorporating two problems, which have always been present in his practice. On the one hand, the question about how we coexist with images, and on the other, the unfolding of visual production strategies’ inclusion into the perverse, arbitrary and contradictory global universe of contemporary art.

Regen Projects and kurimanzutto are pleased to present Distant Star / Estrella Distante an exhibition based on the writings of Chilean born writer Roberto Bolaño (b. 1953 – d. 2003). Bolaño’s writing — lyrical, evocative, transformative, political, and powerful — has been a common passion for many of the artists in this exhibition as well as the organizers. The exhibition is partly homage to the writer, and partly an exploration of the timbre and topicality of his works.

Born in Sancti Spiritus, Cuba, in 1979, currently lives and works in Mexico City.
Known for using the city and its inhabitants as a context of his practice, Ariel Orozco is an artist who produces complex and challenging works of art with virtually nothing. Political and social by nature, his work largely consists of actions and interventions, which he methodically documents.
