Puerto Rico-based artist team Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla have been chosen to represent the US in the next Venice Biennale, running from 4 June-27 November 2011. The pair will present six new works in the American pavilion of the Giardini, in a display curated by commissioner Lisa Freiman, chair of the Indianapolis Museum of Art’s contemporary art department.
According to press announcements, Allora & Calzadilla will create new site-specific works that will “analyze contemporary geopolitics through the lens of spectacular nationalistic and competitive enterprises such as the Olympic Games, international commerce, war, the military-industrial complex and even the Biennale itself”.
