Tonight!!! Opening Reception of the exhibition “Alternative Processes: New Ways of Seeing” at the The Plaxall Gallery of the Cultyre Lab Long Island City @culturelablic. From 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

A great survey of alternative processes used in their photo-based creative work by 72 artists from around the world. Do not miss it tonight if you are in NYC! ..

The work of Miami-based visual artist José García @avantgarci ..Abuelo Pepe (Ghost) is a xerox image transfer using a monotype technique to create a faint impression known as a ghost print. The print pays homage to the source image which originally comes from an original passport photo of the artist’s grandfather, whom he was named after. The artist creates artworks that reflect on the passage of time by re-imagining his family archive of photographs to investigate nostalgia, family, home, place, loss, and trauma. His work approaches image-making through poetic gestures that blend the printmaking process with the act of recalling, forgetting, and constructing. The overarching themes of his work are informed by revisiting stories of intergenerational legacies to deconstruct notions of memory, question traditional gender norms, and investigate the ways images can memorialize a person.
