Gustavo Perez Monzon at Malbourugh. -The Directors of Marlborough New York are delighted to present a selection of recent works on paper by Gustavo Pérez Monzón in Gallery 105. This will be the artist’s first exhibition with Marlborough. Recognized as one of the leading Conceptual artists of his native Cuba, Pérez Monzón participated in the mythic Volumen I exhibition of 1980 along with his former art professor, Tomás Sánchez. Pérez Monzón is recognized for his austere compositions and site-specific installations.
Gustavo Pérez Monzón gained great accolades after his participation in Volumen uno (Volume One), the early-1980s group exhibition at the Centro de Arte Internacional de La Habana, as part of a group of under-25 artists. The importance of this group show was immediately apparent thanks to the selection of themes and issues engaged by the artists, which positioned most of them in a significant spot in the contemporary art scene.
